How to cope with stress

Hello and welcome to my blog page! Today I am talking about Stress because it seems that we are all experiencing this and it's affecting the quality of life.

If you were asked on a scale of 1-10 one being totally relaxed and fine and ten is feeling high levels of stress, where would you be on the scale? Are you stressed?


If you find yourself near a 7 or 8 you're not alone!


When we are in stressful situations, what exactly are we feeling? What is stress?


Stress is our body's reaction to any challenge or demand when we feel threatened our body defenses alert us to danger and its this response that takes us into, what's called fight or flight mode. This can be triggered a thought, being under pressure, worrying about something, feeling overwhelmed or going through a period of uncertainty.

It's those personal situations when things happen in our lives, like losing a loved one, for obvious reasons this will affect us, shake our foundation, and high up there are financial issues. Paying the bills, trying to make ends meet can really affect us, the pressure at work, deadlines, maybe taking exams or moving home and the list goes on.

What effect does this have on us?

It's those feelings of overwhelm, worry, fear, and the longer we remain in this threatened mode, experiencing these stressful situations, it piles up and longer we remain under any stressful situation, it will impact us on all levels mentally, emotionally, and physical body.

How many of us can identify with this?

The longer we are in this mode we are unable to fully relax and that stays with us at night, you can't sleep which turns into insomnia, then you're under the weather and it's gone way longer than expected, with cold after another, headaches, unexplained stomach trouble and the issues pile up.

In the eleven years of working with people in the area of remedial and therapeutic Massage, it was undeniable, how stress can be held in the body! Sometimes we don't even attribute it stress because we have become so accustomed to this state, it's become our normal.

What can you and I do to alleviate unwelcome levels of stress in our lives?

We know there are things we can do to reduce the effects by incorporating a better lifestyle, introducing an exercise routine can help, looking at what we put into our bodies and you may using some good outlets.

However, there is one way that can get overlooked, perhaps considered almost too simple to help and that is the power of meditation.

MEDITATION

Yes, that's right, meditation but why is it so helpful?

Meditation has been a practice for thousands of years with many benefits. It will help you relax, reduce the level of stress, and anxiety. Meditation will put into an alpha state, where the mind will be in a wakeful relaxed, calm, hypnotic state of peace connecting with the Universal cosmos.

You don't have an hour I hear you say, I agree, it's not always possible to take that much time out of our busy lives, but have you tried just ten minutes?

Try this for ten minutes!

Choose relaxing music (without words, maybe nature sounds, healing music, or silence if you prefer)

Try a guided meditation if your mind is busy

To begin meditation, make sure your comfortable and choose a position that is available to you. These ten minutes out can be anywhere of your choosing, on a break, at lunchtime, a quiet place, park bench, in a garden, and so on.

Put a timer on your phone if you have a time restraint

Set your intention by saying to yourself - I ask my mind to be quiet please (take some deep breaths) wait until you can acknowledge you are present

(notice any subtle changes, like sounds becoming louder, for example, a clock ticking, distant talking if your outside, the birds, wind, nature)

Allow yourself this time

Your intention is key, it will take place - your mind will give in and surrender to your inner power

How you do this is up to you, but find what works for you.

This Universal Life force energy for us is like water to a plant. it feeds us, restores, rebuilds, and keeps us alive. That's why we feel better and function better when we connect with it, meditate with it and use it to self-heal.

Healing aids the physical body to release the stress and tension we personally hold on to, as it restores our energy balance. Our emotional and mental states respond to this Life force energy by clearing, rejuvenating, and bringing in a sense of calm, peace, and clarity into our conscious awareness.

I have the pleasure of working with many people whether it's during a Reiki session or teaching someone how to activate healing for themselves to hold space and experience total relaxation in a way that would be otherwise hard to achieve or maintain.
